Develop Your Website
A website is for life not just for Christmas! Your website is one of the main focal points of your companies marketing activities. If you do nothing else you must spend half an hour a week looking at your own website using the eyes of your customers. Modify it and adjust it until it is right for them NOT FOR YOU. The articles on this page are here to help and stimulate you to think like your customers and develop the site they need, not the site you want.
Blow Your Own
As business people we all know how tough things can be and that it is important to celebrate our successes. Yet conversely, it is often in our natures to play down these successes and not want to make a fuss about things. At W3 Design we actively encourage our customers to promote their successes as they are a valuable tool for winning more business.
Would you rather eat at an empty restaurant or one that is lively and busy. Why is the restaurant empty? Is it because they are not serving good food? Are their staff not treating the customers correctly? These questions and more come into our heads when we see the empty restaurant, whilst with the busy one we can see that they must be doing something right as people are even queuing to get in.
It is the same with every business who are promoting new orders or contracts won. We would all probably prefer to deal with companies who are busy and active rather than those who have no work on and seem to be needy.
You need to promote your business successes actively. Using your website is ideal, but also you can link this to such things as Facebook and Google+. You don't have to write a novel about something, in fact three or four well written paragraphs can make your point equally as well. Neither do you have to spend every minute of the day working out how to promote yourself.
For example at W3 Design we have a simple system for promoting ourselves. We send out newsletters (like this one) on a regular basis where we give hints and tips about using the web effectively for marketing and in the newsletter we promote the companies whose websites we have recently worked on. In addition we use Facebook for our 'website of the day' and a weekly link to our own website. In 'time' terms this activity takes us less than two hours a week in total.
We truly believe that our customers are our best promotional assets, and by letting them know what we have done for other people they are better able to refer us to their friends, colleagues and business connections as and when the need arises.
How we promote ourselves is not rocket science, and is easily copied. We encourage all our customers to do so. All you need to do is work out how and when you want to do regular promotions about new orders you have won, developments within your business and other successes that have made your business more successful.
If you need some help or advice about how to plan and execute simple self promotional methods please give us a call at the office, we are happy to share our knowledge.
